The TOS5200 AC withstand voltage tester is designed to perform withstand voltage tests among the four tests required to ensure the safety of electrical products. The output is 5kV/100mA (AC), enabling withstand voltage testing of electronic equipment and components in accordance with the requirements of IEC, EN, UL, VDE, JIS, and other national safety standards and the Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law.
In addition, the newly developed switching amplifier improves test voltage stability, maintaining output voltage constant even when AC line voltage or frequency changes, enabling stable testing even in regions with unstable power supply environments. A full range of functional equipment is provided to meet various testing needs. This is a “standard” model of low-cost AC withstand voltage testers that is thoroughly designed for ease of operation, reliability, and safety.
Comparison with conventional product TOS5050A (differences)
Highly stable output unaffected by input voltage!
Equipped with the PWM switching amplifier system, the TOS5200 realizes highly stable output without influenced by input form AC line. A conventional Hipot Tester boosts and outputs the AC line’s input voltage through the use of a slide transformer system With this slide transformer system, input voltage fluctuations will affect the output, preventing test from being performed properly.
Since the TOS5200 equips with a high-efficient PWM amplifier that can output a stable high-voltage without being affected by the variation of AC power line, users can perform “safe”, “stable”, and highly “reliable” tests with confidence, even in regions with large voltage variations.
The output waveform is essential factor in Hipot (Withstanding oltage) testing!
Less measurement error! What is the difference between ±1.5% of “reading” and ±1.5% “f.s.”?
For example, when measuring output voltage 1500V with TOS5200, the maximum error ΔV = 1500 (reading) x 1.5% = 22.5V. When measuring output voltage 1500V with TOS5050A, 0 to 2.5kV/0 to 5kV (2 ranges) is set to 0 to 2.5kV range, so the maximum error ΔV = Therefore, the maximum error ΔV = 2500 (maximum value) × 1.5% = 37.5V. Therefore, the same 1500V measurement has a maximum measurement error of 15V.

Test time can be set from 0.1 sec! Contributes to shorter takt time!
With the TOS5200, test time can be set from 0.1 second without sacrificing measurement accuracy. This is five times faster than the TOS5050A, which had a minimum test time of 0.5 seconds, leading to shorter takt time. Since shorter takt time is directly related to improved productivity, many users have requested changes or modifications to the minimum test time setting. However, a challenge in withstand voltage testing was that a test time faster than the measurement response speed would result in extremely poor measurement accuracy.
Increased resolution of leakage current setting value!
TOS5200 is can set the current limit from0.01 mA to 110 mA.

Rise time/fall time control function!
The rise time control function prevents the EUT (EUT under test) from being stressed more than necessary. If a high voltage is applied suddenly without rise time, a large transient voltage is generated, which may cause damage to the EUT.
For this reason, safety standards specify withstand voltage test methods and require that the test voltage be gradually increased to a specified voltage. The start voltage can also be set to 50% of the test voltage (fixed). In addition, a fall time function allows the test voltage to be gradually reduced after the PASS judgment is completed. The voltage drop time is fixed at 0.1 s (OFF is also possible).
Rise Time control function
The Rise time control function enables you to increases the test voltage gradually to reach the setting voltage while the AC Hipot (Withstanding voltage) test is conducted. The voltage rise time can be set from 0.1 s to 10.0 s at a resolution of 0.1s.
Fall time control function
The Fall time control fun-ction enables you to decrease the test voltage gradually when the PASS judgment is made at the AC Hipot (Withstanding voltage) test. The voltage fall time is fixed at 0.1 s. (OFF is also selectable).

Taking size, weight, and cost into consideration, the heat dissipation capability of the voltage generator that is used for withstanding voltage tests has been designed to be one half that of the rated output. Use the TOS5300 Series within the following limits. If you use the product in a manner that exceeds these limits, the output section may overheat, and the internal protection circuits may be activated. If this happens, stop testing, and wait until the TOS5300 Series returns to its normal temperature.

*2: Regarding the test voltage waveform: Waveform distortions may occur if an DUT whose capacitance is dependent on voltage (for example, an DUT that consists of ceramic capacitors) is connected as the load. However, if the test voltage is 1.5 kV, the effect of a capacitance of 1000 pF or less can be ignored.Because the product’s high-voltage power supply uses the PWM switching method, if the test voltage is 500 V or less, the switching and spike noise proportions are large. The lower the test voltage, the greater the waveform is distorted. *3: For both True rms and Mean-value response, 50 ms or above response time is required to satisfy the measurement accuracy. *4: Regarding ammeter and judgment accuracy: During AC withstanding voltage tests, current also flows in the stray capacitance of items such as the measurement leads and jigs.
