*1 Basic insulation *2 Does not apply to specially ordered or modified products. *3 Only for models with CE marking / UKCA marking on their body. *4 This is a Class A instrument. This product is intended for use in an industrial environment. This product may cause interference if used in residential areas. Such use must be avoided unless the user takes special measures to reduce electromagnetic emissions to prevent interference to the reception of radio and television broadcasts. *5 This is a Class I instrument. Be sure to ground this product’s protective conductor terminal. The safety of this product is guaranteed only when the product is properly grounded. *6 Pollution is addition of foreign matter (solid, liquid or gaseous) that may produce a reduction of dielectric strength or surface resistivity. Pollution Degree 2 assumes that only non-conductive pollution will occur except for an occasional temporary conductivity caused by condensation. *7 Only for models with cTUVus marking on their body.

Bidirectional High-Capacity DC Power Supply (CV/CC) - PXB Series
Rare interview transcripts from those involved in the development of the bi-directional power supply

The electric drive changes the power from the engine to the motor, which converts energy in both directions, so the electrical components (inverter, battery, etc.) that drive the motor are subject to bi-directional current flow.

In the evaluation of these electrical components, the market demanded a power supply that could handle bidirectional current, and the power band varied from 10 kW to several 100 kW, depending on the type of EV, so there was a wide range of power needs. At that time, Kikusui did not have a bi-directional DC power supply or a power supply that could handle several hundred kW, and we decided to develop a bi-directional DC power supply that could sufficiently meet market demands, considering that market needs would increase further if not only cars but all forms of transportation became electrically powered.
