GPIB board and driver (if controlling chambers)
One of the following GPIB environment is required:
- National Instruments GPIB board
- Agilent Technologies GPIB board
- CONTEC GPIB board
Note:
GPIB driver and VISA library compatible with your OS are required.
Installing the Kernel Mode USB Driver
The PFX2121 Controller is controlled through the USB. To use the communication functions on the BPChecker2000, a USB driver must be installed. (Test Condition Editor and Graph Viewer do not require the USB driver as they do not use communication functions.)
As for the installation order of the USB driver and the application software, follow the steps below:
- Connect PFX2121 Controller to the PC (or hub) with a USB cable
- After it is recognized as a USB device, a prompt for driver installation will appear but then cancel it
- Using the SETUP program, install BPChecker2000 system
- After SETUP completes, continuously run Hardware Configuration Wizard
- At the first screen of the wizard, select an appropriate USB driver then click the Driver Setup button.
- The USB Driver Wizard will appear and follow the proceedure.
USB Cable
The USB cable essentially does not have a lock mechanism. However, unlike a printer that is used temporarily, the PFX2000 system is run for extended periods. Therefore, it is recommended that some kind of measure be taken to prevent the cable from coming loose.
Installing the GPIB and VISA Library (Only when controlling temperature chambers)
BPChecker2000 system allows you to control temperature chambers as need. Available models are only from Tabai Espec, and you can chose GPIB or RS232 for its interface. When controlling the chambers, a VISA library must be separately installed. Furthermore, when controlling with GPIB, a GPIB driver that is compatible with your GPIB board and OS.
GPIB hardware environment and VISA library vendor are different by user basis, so the SETUP program of BPChecker2000 system does not automatically install them. Furthermore, due to redistribution licencing, these software are not included in the product CD-ROM (except for KI-VISA). Therefore you need obtain them from the GPIB hardware vendor as need.
The VISA libraries that can be used with BPChecker2000 are show below. As for GPIB driver, BPChecker2000 does not have any restriction as long as the driver is compatible with your GPIB board and OS. When controlling the chambers through RS232, no GPIB driver is required.
- NI-VISA 3.3 or later
- Agilent VISA (Agilent IO Libraries) Suite 15.0 or later
- KI-VISA 3.1.3 or later
- (newer version may be required depending on your OS)
Operation in Non-Japanese Environments
This application runs as a Japanese application under Japanese environment and as an English application under all other environment. The lanfuage environment of OS site is depending on the regional settings of Windows Control Panel.
As this product is made as UNICODE build, you can use any languages with English version application as long as the language is supported by the Windows version you are using.
PFX2000 USB SPY
The shortcut for this program is created when you install the application, but its existence is not even mentioned in the user’s manual. The SPY program intercepts and records the information that is communicated via the USB against the PFX2121 Controller. This program is not required in normal test operations, but may be useful in monitoring the status when problems occur in the USB communication. The control commands and responses that flow through the USB traffic are in binary. The content is not disclosed to the user. This program was initially created in the development of the system, but is retained for maintenance and service purposes. The program displays English even on Japanese Windows.
Disabling PC Power Management
When the PC gets into the suspended state due to the power management function, the power of the PFX2121 Controller also get turned off (because of bus-power). After that, resuming the PC does not restart the communication correctly, and thereby you will have to reboot the PC. To avoid this problem, make sure to disable the power management capability of your PC. The energy save functionality for display only does not generate this problem.

Resolved issues
When changing the assigned test condition at runtime, the first item of the monitoring CH list was not affected, thereby the CH still operated with the old test condition.
Resolved issues
Cycle number was unexpectedly incremented by one when the STOP action during predischarge was performed. For example, STOP action during predischarge (1) did make the finished cycle number change to 1, thereby the subsequent restart action did play predischarge (2).
Improvement
Parenthesis indication for END state was confusing, therefore changed to square brackets [ ].
Improvement
When chamber sync, CH with a detected alarm could not be unbound from the group, therefore the CH could not be reused until the entire job of the group had finished. The CH with a detected alarm is now able to be emptied. By allowing empty action, the CH can be unbound and at the same time can be bound to other group.
Resolved issues
As for HDD free space checking, the check mechanism just did checking for the hard disk directory only, with which the first CH on the monitoring list is associated. Also the warning and the auto-stop processing were applied to all channels. Furthermore, a disk-full misdetection was generated when a sub-directory for test data generation was newly created. By these causes, there was a problem that test operation was aborted with no meanings.
Improvement
Under HDD free space warning state, a feature that shows "HDD Warning" on the "Status" column on the CH list display. When the HDD free warning has been fixed, that indicator automatically disappears.
Resolved issues
Due to incorrect chamber sync queuing mechanism, operating the Test Execution panel so frequently might make the chamber synchronisation corrupted.
Improvement
On the Test Execution [START] panel, when selecting a test condition file independently for a channel, not all the available test conditions were displayed in the combobox. Now combobox is replaced with a popup menu GUI, allowing all the available test conditions to be visible. When there are tons of test condition files, the popup menu can scroll vertically.
Resolved issues
When changing the test condition on the Test Execution [START] panel, The "sample name" could not replaced and remained to show the one of the previous condition.
Resolved issues
The point data of elapsed time 0[s] is now enforced to set to zero (as the same processing as Ah). Previously, a junk data generated by the previous cycle was assigned to the 0[s] point.
Resolved issues
When the impedance meter generated an alarm, the operation was mapped to other channel without awaiting the measurement completion, thereby a connection error was generated. Now the measurement makes the data invalid when in such cases.
Resolved issues
Handle resources acquired from the OS (Windows) were not partially returned, thereby there was some memory leakage problems.
Improvement
When detecting life NG judgement, the test is treated as END. Previously it was treated as ABORT.
Resolved issues
When a group that a chamber was associated with had been deleted, that chamber number could never be re-assigned to other group.
Improvement
When the ordinary numbers of overlapped graphs were displayed on the graph analysis view, there was no way to identify what data was corresponding to what battery. Now "sample name" information is added.
Resolved issues
Average Voltage of the C/D graph analysis view was calculated as "average of all point" rather than "average until capacity calculation voltage".
Resolved issues
Graph display option of the "capacity calculation voltage" did not function.
Resolved issues
When clicking a folder item on the left-side tree view, an access violation was generated.
Improvement
Graph Explorer program (English only, Asian file name processing enabled) and its launcher menu have been added. The Graph Explorer allows you to search for test data with keys such as, file extension, instrument ID, channel#, and cycle#. The search results can be transferred to the Graph Viewer by a drag & drop action.
Resolved issues
When opening a C/D graph data, if the actual file size was smaller than the number of data items stamped in the data file header, it was impossible to open the data.
Resolved issues
When appending C/D or LIFE test data, it is normally overwritten when the same cycle number data already exist due to such as restarting test operations. However, because of incorrect search algorithm, there was a problem that the data file could be destroyed.
Improvement
When file write action was failed, the information is not sent to Windows as an event log.
Resolved issues
In VER1.x (V1), the test conditions (.BPCT), C/D data (.BPCG), and Life data (.BPCL) files were all in XML format. However, when the amount of data in XML format is large, parsing takes extremely long. Therefore, these files were changed to binary format in V2. (File name extensions are unchanged.) The Test Condition Editor can load the conventional BPCT files in V1/XML format. However, all the data are saved in V2/binary format. The Test Executive generates BPCG/BPCL files only in V2/binary format. The Graph Viewer only handles BPCG/BPCL files in V2/binary format. Conventional files in V1/XML format cannot be loaded. To do so, the user must convert the data into V2/binary format using a data converter that is provided separately.
Improvement
As a new feature, the Test Executive can generate data in text format along with the binary data when the test is being executed.
Improvement
The concept of projects has been discontinued. In V1, all test conditions files (.BPCT) and test data files (.BPCG/.BPCL) had to be placed in a single hard disk folder. In V2, the files can be placed on separate drives or in separate folders. As an extreme example, the files can be placed on a network drive. However, this is not recommended, because the test will fail if problems occur in the network.
Improvement
The concept of groups existed in V1, but is slightly different in V2. First, there is a one-to-one relationship between a group and an actual directory (folder) on the hard disk. The all test conditions and test result data obtained by using those test conditions, belonging to a specific group are all placed under the corresponding directory on the hard disk. If groups are different, no test conditions can be shared. This isolated characteristic can be used to group tests by users, projects, and so on. Any number of test conditions files can be created in a group. (This actually saves BPCT files in the hard disk directory corresponding to the group. ) If the test conditions are assigned to a channel and the test is executed, the test result data is saved in the subdirectory with the same name as the test conditions file. In other words, the destination where test results are generated varies if the test conditions differ even when the channel and the group are the same. +group folder test conditions file.BPCT / +test conditions file / +[CH_x_xxx] test result data (large amount of .BPCG/.BPCL) / +[CH_x_xxx] test result data (large amount of .BPCG/.BPCL
Improvement
The concept of project in V1 has been discontinued (because of its poor usability). This has given flexibility in the way C/D and Life data are designated. In addition, drag and drop from Windows Explorer has been supported. Dropping a file with .BPCG extension on to the background section (dark gray section) of the Graph Viewer opens the C/D graph immediately. Likewise, dropping a file with .BPCL extension opens the Life graph. If you select multiple files, the graphs are automatically superimposed. If you drop a file onto a graph document that is opened, not the gray section, the document and the file dropped are displayed superimposed. Normally multiple files that are drag and dropped from Windows Explorer are those that exist in the same folder. However, by using the search result window, you can superimpose graphs of multiple files with names that have common parts (existing in different folders).

New Feature
The operation of adding channels has been changed from pair of channels at a time to one channel at a time. This is to support the large-volume charge/discharge unit planned in the future will not have a channel pair construction. For the same reason, the remove function no longer handles channels in pairs.
Improvement
Fixed the problem of cycle #00001 not appearing in the dialog box used to add data to be superimposed for C/D graphs.
Resolved issues
Fixed the problem of analysis not being performed correctly on the pulse charge/discharge data.
Resolved issues
Fixed the problem of not being able to set graph projects directly to a read-only medium (CD-R backup, etc.).
Resolved issues
Fixed the problem of button positions not following the resizing of certain dialog boxes.
Resolved issues
Changed the groups/channels that are displayed first in the dialog box used to add data to be superimposed for C/D graphs and Life graphs to suitable ones.
